About Jo Phee

Jo Phee is a senior trainer for Yin Yoga teachers around the world. A long time student and senior assistant to both Paul Grilley and Sarah Powers, the two founders of Yin Yoga, Jo was one of the first certified Yin Yoga teachers in the world. Over the past decade and more, Jo has completed over 1500 hours of training with Paul and Sarah, and was personally tutored by Paul to teach his entire teacher training curriculum. With more than a decade long of teaching experience, Jo has accumulated over 10,000 hours of teaching public Yin classes and 5000 hours of teaching in teacher trainings.

Treated almost solely with Chinese Medicine from childhood by her Taoist parents, Jo has been familiar with Traditional Chinese Medicine ("TCM") all her life. Much of her initial education about TCM was based on practical knowledge passed down from generations in her Chinese family. To add theoretical basis to her personal experience, Jo went on to study Chinese Medicine at the Singapore College of TCM, as well as the Academy of TCM. The primary focus of her studies has been the Chinese Meridian System, a theory which Jo has studied in four different occasions with different lecturers across various institutions. Jo has also completed a course on Chinese Meridians with American Acupuncturist, Dr Susan Stumpf.

Jo holds a 3-year Yoga Diploma from the Bihar School of Yoga (Satyananda Yoga Academy), famed for developing the relaxation practice of Yoga Nidra. Her knowledge and interest in the Chinese Meridian system inspired her to develop the "Meridian Nidra" practice, a fusion of the "Meridian Clock" and "Yoga Nidra" practices. Jo was also the first to introduce the "Meridian Chant", the "Guasha" treatment and "Meridian Massage" into her Yin Yoga teacher training programs.

Driven by a profound interest for functional anatomy and fascial studies, Jo has been attending human cadaver dissections every year. She has performed many dissections and has had the opportunity to study up to 30 cadaver specimens to date. Jo obtained her Myofascial Release Therapy training in the USA and has studied with renowned pioneers and researchers in the fascia field in America and Europe. She has attended fascia school at Ulm University Germany, one of the top global research institution for fascia. She has recently participated in the 4th International Fascia Research Congress held in Washington DC, a meeting of all fascia experts and researchers. Jo is also a founding member of the Fascia Research Society, where she is constantly kept up-to-date with the latest science in fascia research.

Jo’s teachings are a blend of the science of Western Anatomy fused with Eastern Medicine and Philosophy. She resides in Singapore but spends most of her time traveling around the world delivering Yin Yoga Teacher Training programs.
